Unlike other reviewers, I thought this book was concise and successfully demonstrated specific techniques used to edit digital photos. You can flip to any chapter and immediately follow the steps (you don't have to read it cover-to-cover). Kelby goes to great lengths to provide methods that people working with digital photographs require often and gives both Mac and PC shortcut commands for each. Instructions are accompanied by a screenshot of the command being carried out. Before and after comparisons show you how the photos has been improved. Through the purchase of this book, Kelby also provides access to the photos used in his book for "practice" modification. This book is meant for digital photographers looking for a few techniques to improve overall quality of their photos - teeth whitening, sharpening, image color correction, color balancing, etc. However, it is not a "How to" book on Photoshop CS, it is specifically meant for digital photographers. Kelby even admits this from the start! He assumes you already have a bit of working knowledge about Photoshop CS and dives right into image correction, beginning from the moment you unload the image from your camera and ending with a final product presentable to clients. Also covered is how to work with images in the Image Browser and most requested special effects. What makes this book unique and worth purchasing is it's ability to break down techniques used by digital photographers to improve their work. By following the clearly explained steps, you can make your photograph look a hundred percent better in no time flat. As a part-time portrait photographer I thought this book was immensely helpful and has definitely improved my editing technique. I would recommend this book to novices as well as experienced digital photographers as an instruction guide for improving various aspects of their photographs.
